Dec 2020 – Wow! What a year 2020 has turned out to be! The headlines today (mid-November) claimed the highest number of COVID cases since the outbreak in March. Just when you think we are getting a handle on this virus, the numbers surge again. Very frustrating and a real opportunity to grow in our ability to be less controlling and more trusting.
June 2020 – I thank God for the privilege of being in our Ugandan farming village with these precious little angels as they pour their hearts out in prayer. If there is such a thing as a “pipeline to heaven”, there is no shadow of a doubt in my mind that our babies have it.
Dec 2019 – Greetings and many blessings to you this Christmas season! Once again I am writing this filled with gratitude for all the support, wisdom, and prayers so many of you have given so generously to MCM this year. Thank you! The photo above is a very special memory for me. It shows our Annabel, an orphan having lost both her parents by age 10, surrounded on her graduation day. All these people are Annabel’s “village”. Together at her godmother’s home, we ate good food purchased by Ellen her sponsor, and prepared by family and friends. Together we gave speeches celebrating Annabel’s perseverance, good choices, and against-all-odds impressive victory. Together we cut the cake and danced around the tiny living room jumping and hooting our happiness for this bright young lady’s future. Together.
June 2019 – During my January 2019 visit to Uganda Ivan and I did several children home visits for a variety of reasons. Whether we were visiting a sick baby, ensuring that construction work had commenced for a new goat pen, collecting missing report cards, setting up solar lighting, or checking on the safety of our child’s living situation we were welcomed most enthusiastically. These are charming characteristics of Ugandan culture – a high value of community, the honor they place on having guests, and the warm hospitality each guest is given.
December 2017 – I captured this image at the children’s birthday party in September when Uncle Ivan surprised all the children with a popper after singing Happy Birthday. Suddenly and unexpectedly there was a loud “BANG!” and the air was filled with bits of colorful paper confetti. The children screamed with delight reaching to hold a piece of the magic floating down. I hope that you spend time looking at this picture and experience that good warm feeling that comes from giving others joy. If you are receiving this newsletter you have participated in some way in making this precious moment happen. From committed, loving sponsors, to crazy generous donors, to church endowment committees, to those who freely give paper and envelopes or backpacks and socks, to those who act as pen pals to the unsponsored. Those who listen for hours encouraging and counseling me, to those who have garage sales or climb mountains or design websites or do graphic art or get their school involved or suggest matching gifts at work. Those who ask how it is going, give wisdom at board meetings, send us cards, letters, texts, emails and encourage and sincerely thank us for doing MCM. To all of you who pray, or send sweet thoughts or challenge me to “put my big girl panties on” or simply tell me you care. This is a group effort, a group Love and I hope that this picture (and newsletter) in some small way surrounds you with the Joy that comes from knowing you helped bring joy to the other side of the world!
December 2016 – Wishing you all joy and peace this Christmas! May you experience more of God’s Presence as you pause and recognize the vulnerable Christ child among us. It seems ironic that although pausing at Christmas is necessary to see Him, it is in fact the most difficult time to be still. With frantic shopping, decorating, baking and partying it is a grand, heroic effort to stop and wait and listen.
June 2016 – Thanking God for this opportunity to reflect back these past six months on MCM’s blessings. Ivan and I are so grateful to God for our sponsors, our ministry friends, and our supporting churches. We are also grateful for good health, for steady growth, and for necessary changes. We are stretching with the unique challenges God allows to build our faith and trust in His goodness. We find ourselves moving towards “Welcoming All” circumstances, especially unexpected detours. We are learning it is all from God who often transforms us even more profoundly through the trials. I can say, humbled, “It is all grace.”

June 2015 – In the past 6 months we have added more children to the program, more children to our monthly Bible study, a playground, 6 acres of farmland, a hen house, 285 chickens, one pig, a new House Mum, a new Project Manager, and our first university candidate. There was a Christmas/New Year’s Party attended by 180 children! The piggery and barbed wire fence surrounding it were completed. MCM – UG was able to purchase 2 plots of land suitable for more farming or building. All this in addition to the care of our sponsored children. Ivan, MCM’s Executive Director, will fill you in on these additions on the next page. It is mind-boggling all the blessings God has poured out on us!
December 2014 – Thank you for your prayers, your interest, and your generous support of MCM this year! Ivan and I have put together a brief overview of this year’s highlights. I laugh at the word ‘brief’ considering its length but the truth is it has been severely edited. I have given you only the bare bones. More details will come in blogs and posts.
