Alex’s mother died in 2016 from the AIDS. The boy’s father is not known. The family says his mother went to work in western Uganda and returned to her mother Peace’s home pregnant with Alex. At that time she was already showing signs of having contracted AIDS. Alex’s mum died in her mother’s home just after Alex’s birth. Alex has been brought up by his grandmother, Peace, who struggles to provide for the boy’s needs as she ages.
