Family History:
Emmanuel’s mother, Sylvia, gave Emmanuel to a family to work as a shepherd when he was only seven years old. Because of a severe speech impediment, Sylvia thought he would never make it in school or life and all Emmanuel was good for was herding cows and goats. The family Sylvia gave Emmanuel to mistreated him and didn’t even pay him because he was so young. Fortunately, there was an old widow (Jackline) in that village who saw how Emmanuel was treated and took the boy from the abusive family with the help of the local leaders. Jackline put him back in school and because she was struggling to pay his tuition her daughter started to help. Soon after Jackline’s daughter lost her job and was forced to stop supporting him. At that time Emmanuel started paying his own school fees by asking people with farms if he could trap and dispose of moles from their farms for pay. The money Emmanuel has been making, he has used to pay for this past year of schooling.
