Family History:
Joel’s father died in 2007 when Joel was a few months old. Joel’s mother left Joel when he was a year old with his paternal grandmother, Harriet. Joel’s mum, Allen, has only returned to the village once since then for the burial of a relative. Joel’s grandma has been the one to get him to this point in his life and as a peasant farmer with no land her old age is preventing her from continuing Joel’s education.
